HSN Marketing: A Journey to Digital Marketing

Why I Chose HSN Marketing Solutions

Intro: From Survival Mode to Marketing Strategy

For years, I lived in survival mode while working long hours, raising my 4yo daughter as a single mom, and navigating recovery while trying to stay afloat. I didn’t know what my future held, but I knew I wanted more than just a paycheck. I wanted purpose, freedom, more time with my daughter, and the chance to build something that reflected who I am.

That’s why I’ve created HSN Marketing Solutions. It’s not just a brand, it’s a reflection of my journey, my values, and my vision for helping others feel seen, heard, and understood through strategic, authentic marketing.

I didn’t have a roadmap, I just had a deep desire to rebuild my life and create something meaningful. Every step I’ve taken since has been fueled by hope, grit, and the belief that my story could empower others.

Education & Inspiration: Choosing Digital Marketing

After leaving a domestic violence relationship and feeling stuck in a cycle of undervalued jobs, I knew I needed to make a change. I reached out to Vocational Rehabilitation, a program that helps people access career training, and they helped me find the right path. I chose Digital Marketing at MTECH, and I’m so glad I did.

I enrolled in Mountainland Technical College’s Accelerated Digital Marketing & Analytics Program and started in August 2025. It’s been over a decade since I graduated high school, and going back to school was a huge leap of faith. However, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for my daughter and I.

I’m learning how to build brands, optimize content, and create strategies that connect. I’m also building HSN Marketing Solutions from the ground up; with clarity, creativity, and compassion. If you’re a student thinking about freelance marketing, SolidGigs’ guide to freelancing as a student offers practical steps for choosing services, balancing school, and launching your brand.

Life Experience as Strategy

Before marketing, I worked in gas stations, retail, food service, and even as a CNA right out of high school (back when MTECH was called MATC). I’ve seen the inside of a lot of workplaces and felt the sting of being undervalued.

Some managers and bosses let their titles go to their heads. I wasn’t paid fairly, and I wasn’t respected for being a mom or a person with a life outside of work. People judged me quickly when they learned I was in recovery. But I kept going.

Brand Vision: What HSN Marketing Solutions Stands For

HSN stands for my initials (Harlee S Nielsen), but also stands for Hope, Strength, & New Beginnings. I’m building a brand that is welcoming, organized, and emotionally aware. My aesthetic leans toward soft colors, bold fonts, and layouts that guide the eye without overwhelming it.

I’m a spiritual person, and I draw strength from God, my daughter, and my close friends and family to stay motivated while building this brand as well as every other aspect of my life. That energy especially flows into my work. I want to help people stare at their message in a way that makes them feel proud, confident, and connected.

My services will include:

  • Digital Marketing strategy
  • Social Media marketing and content planning
  • Beginning web design & layout consulting

I’m still exploring what I’ll specialize in, but I’m open to offering a little bit of everything, especially based on what’s needed in my community here in Spanish Fork, Utah. If you’re building a personal brand, Forbes’ guide to branding as a freelancer is a great resource for staying clear and consistent.

I believe good marketing starts with empathy and ends with impact. That’s why I’ll take time to understand each client’s voice, goals, and audience. Whether it’s a social media strategy or a website layout, I want every piece of content to feel intentional. I’m not here to sell, I’m here to serve. And I want my clients to feel proud of what we build together.

Ideal Clients: Who I Hope to Serve

I want to work with good people, people who care about their message, their audience, and their values. My ideal clients will hopefully include:

  • Small business owners who need help organizing their content and messaging
  • Other freelancers and creators who want to level up their brand with a bigger social media following
  • Moms and caregivers launching something new and needing strategic support
  • People promoting a service or product with a positive purpose or message who have no experience in marketing

I especially want to support family-owned businesses like Harward Farms, places that value people and community. I know what it’s like to feel unseen, and I want to help others feel the opposite.

What’s Next: Launching HSN in 2026

Once I complete my program in 2026, I’ll officially launch HSN Marketing Solutions. My goals include:

  • Building a portfolio of my school work and case studies
  • Creating accessible content templates and strategy guides available on my website
  • Offer 1:1 consulting for social media, advertising, brand audits, marketing strategies, content calendars, website audits, etc
  • Continue publishing blog posts that blend digital marketing strategy with real-life insight to my web page

I also plan to offer free resources and, sometimes, free services (to build my portfolio) and for aspiring freelancers along with small business owners; especially those who feel overwhelmed by marketing. From blog posts to downloadable templates, I want HSN to be a space where people can learn, grow, and feel supported. My goal is to make marketing feel less intimidating and more empowering, one step at a time.

If you want to follow my journey or explore my work, visit my web page at www.hsnmarketingsol.com. I’ll be sharing updates, resources, and reflections as I grow.

CTA: Let’s Build Something That Matters

HSN Marketing Solutions is more than a business, it’s a reflection of everything I’ve overcome and everything I’m building. I want to help people feel seen, heard, and understood. I want to help them share their message with confidence and clarity.

If you’re ready to collaborate, connect, or just learn more, I’d love to hear from you. Let’s build something that feels like you, and works like magic.
